3. Organisational Boundary & Methodology

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and the associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, using an operational control approach. Emissions are reported in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) using the UK Government's GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting (2025).

Bayseian Ltd was incorporated in June 2024. As a recently established micro-enterprise operating as a remote-first software consultancy with no owned or leased premises, no company vehicles, and no physical product manufacturing, our emissions profile is inherently minimal. Where precise quantitative data is not yet available, we have provided reasonable estimates and noted these accordingly, consistent with the flexibility provisions for SMEs and VCSEs under PPN 006.

4. Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline year:FY 2025–2026 (1 April 2025 – 31 March 2026)

*Estimated figures. Bayseian Ltd was incorporated in June 2024 and operates as a remote-first micro-enterprise with no owned premises, no company vehicles, and no physical products. Scope 2 electricity is allocated proportionally from shared serviced office space. Business travel is predominantly virtual, with occasional UK domestic travel. Cloud hosting emissions are estimated based on provider-published carbon intensity data (AWS, GCP). We are establishing formal measurement processes and will report precise figures in future reporting periods, consistent with the SME flexibility provisions under PPN 006.

5. Current Emissions Reporting

Reporting year:FY 2025–2026 (1 April 2025 – 31 March 2026)

As this is our first reporting period and coincides with our baseline year, current emissions are equal to the baseline figures reported above. Future reporting periods will show progress against this baseline.

6. Emissions Reduction Targets

We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to less than 1.5 tCO2e by FY 2029–2030. This is a reduction of at least 40% from our baseline year.

Bayseian Ltd is committed to the following targets:

TargetTimelineDetails
40% reduction from baselineBy 2030Through continued investment in remote operations, carbon-efficient cloud infrastructure, and sustainable procurement
70% reduction from baselineBy 2035Through renewable energy procurement, carbon-neutral cloud providers, and elimination of non-essential business travel
Net ZeroBy 2040Full Net Zero across all scopes, with any residual emissions offset through verified carbon removal schemes. 10 years ahead of the UK government's 2050 national target.

7. Carbon Reduction Projects & Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or are in progress to achieve our emissions reduction targets:

Completed measures

  • Remote-first operating model — Our team works remotely by default, eliminating daily commuting emissions and reducing the need for dedicated office space. This has been our operating model since incorporation in June 2024.
  • Virtual-first client engagement — All client meetings, workshops, discovery sessions, and delivery are conducted virtually wherever possible. In-person travel is reserved for essential engagements only and is tracked.
  • Paperless operations — All contracts, invoices, reports, proposals, and internal documentation are digital. We have zero printing or paper procurement.
  • Cloud provider selection on carbon intensity — We select cloud regions with published low carbon intensity data. AWS, GCP, and Azure all publish per-region carbon data, and we factor this into infrastructure decisions for both internal and client workloads.
  • Energy-efficient AI system design — We design AI systems with compute efficiency as a core principle, using model distillation, response caching, right-sized infrastructure, and batch processing to minimise unnecessary energy consumption in production deployments.

In progress

  • Formal emissions measurement framework — Implementing structured data collection for Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions across cloud hosting, business travel, and employee commuting to enable precise year-on-year reporting.
  • Sustainable procurement policy — Developing formal procurement criteria that assess the environmental credentials and published sustainability commitments of all technology vendors and subcontractors.
  • Carbon-neutral cloud migration — Evaluating migration of remaining workloads to cloud providers and regions that operate on 100% renewable energy or offer carbon-neutral compute.

Planned future initiatives

  • Renewable energy procurement — As the company grows and occupies dedicated premises, we will procure 100% renewable energy tariffs.
  • Carbon offset programme — For any residual emissions that cannot be eliminated, we will invest in verified carbon removal schemes (not avoidance credits).
  • Supply chain engagement — Engaging with key suppliers to understand their carbon reduction plans and align our supply chain with our Net Zero trajectory.
  • Client sustainability guidance — Offering advisory services on energy-efficient AI architectures and sustainable cloud deployment practices to help clients reduce the carbon footprint of their AI operations.
